You may even look in the mirror and struggle to recognize the reflection staring back at you, wondering what could go wrong next. But here’s a reminder: your story doesn’t have to end here. These photos serve as a testament to…

A ROAD TRIP TO REMEMBER

A ROAD TRIP TO REMEMBER Written By: Darla Belflower Bobbi Jo invited me to join her at Myrtle Beach for the second week of November. Always up for an adventure, I eagerly agreed. Booking my flight, I anticipated beach time and catching up with my friend. However, upon arrival, we were greeted by cold, rainy weather. Bobbi Jo mentioned needing to do some holiday shopping, so I tagged along, clueless about her approach to the holidays and making them personal.…

Healing House Defies Vandalism with Unity

A Setback  Erin’s House, an upcoming safe haven for mothers and children, experienced a significant set-back on August 17, due to vandalism. Our mission is to bring hope and healing to those who need it, but the destruction caused damages of around $50,000, setting us back at least a month on the project. Erin’s House, named in honor of a remarkable volunteer, Erin Langhofer, who tragically lost her life in 2019, was nearly completed. However, the damage inflicted on newly…

Meet Barbie

Meet barbie Barbie fought tears as she spoke about the impact Healing House had on her life. She said, “The only things I knew how to do were get high and go to jail.” She credits the program with teaching her how to live and overcome her substance use disorder. Barbie learned vital life skills at Healing House and was inspired to pursue a career in addiction advocacy. Addiction had been a part of Barbie’s life since before she could…

Turning Pages, Transforming Lives

The Transformative Role of GEDS in Healing from Substance Use Disorders The journey to recovery from substance use disorder is often fraught with numerous challenges. Often one of these challenges is the absence of a high school diploma. Many individuals grappling with addiction have been hindered by trauma, instability, and exposure to drugs and alcohol, all of which prevented them from attaining a formal education. These individuals have likely confronted obstacles such as addicted parents, lack of parental support, physical…

The Greatest community At Healing House, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our community. While located in Northeast Kansas City, our reach extends far beyond, with people from all over the country standing by our side. This week, a special project emerged that held the potential to save lives. The Church of the Resurrection and our dedicated Thursday Crew (volunteers who faithfully join us every Thursday to assist with construction projects) united their efforts to install a new…

Reclaiming Fatherhood

Empowering Fathers in  Recovery Fatherhood is a transformative experience filled with love and responsibility. However, for fathers facing addiction, the journey becomes more complex. Addiction takes a toll on their well-being, making it difficult to provide for their children. According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 23 million adults in the US have struggled with substance abuse, highlighting the significance of this issue in fatherhood. Substance use disorder strain the bond between fathers and children, leading to emotional and…
