A Touch of Class at the RCC

Last month, we were blessed to have a group of talented, classically-trained local musicians perform at our Recovery Community Center. The lights were low and the stage was set for an octet; four violins, two violas and two cellos. They performed the Mendelssohn Octet and several selected solo works. The “Bobbi Jo: Under the Influence” film VIP Screening was on Bobbi Jo’s birthday, Wednesday, September  16th.  The first Kansas City area screening of the biographical film about Bobbi Jo Reed, founder and director of Healing House, was shows to an audience of nearly 1,000 at the Boulevard Drive-in Theater on September 16th. Mama Judi’s Homegoing Celebration

RideKC Earn-A-Bike + Bike Club

We are excited to announce that Healing House and the Recovery Community Center has partnered with the RideKC program.  Our participants engage in a multi week course that covers routine maintenance, road safety, skills practice and instructor led road trips. They will also cover Bike & Bus demonstration and route mapping.  For the participants who graduate the program, they will receive a helmet, bike lock, water bottle, lights and a bicycle!                      …

Emily’s Home for Women will Open in 2020

Emily LaGree We’re still on track to open this year, renovations continue on Emily’s Home, our sixth recovery home for women; in honor of Emily LaGree, a friend and supporter of Healing House who passed away in 2018. Michael Liimatta, Chief Operating Officer

Michael Liimatta began working with Healing House in January 2020. He has served in leadership positions with nonprofit organizations for over thirty years. Most of that time was spent with organizations that help the homeless and people who suffer from substance use disorders. He is a person in long-term recovery himself having begun his journey of sobriety in 1984.
