HH Closes on Site for New Addiction Recovery Center

HH Closes on Site for New Addiction Recovery Center

On Thursday, September 28, Healing House become official owners of the future home of the Addiction Recovery Center (ARC)! Renovation work is scheduled to begin this Fall.

Generous donations from Healing House supporters and grant-makers will allow for the expansion of our facilities and addiction recovery services. An old bowling alley will be converted into the Healing House ARC. Here’s the plan:

A 5,000 sq. ft. Fellowship and Dining Hall will accommodate up to 350 people for meals and recovery programs.

A large commercial kitchen will provide a badly needed upgrade from our current arrangement for feeding the growing Healing House community and expanding HH’s catering business. It will also provide opportunities for residents to build skills and job experience.

The current office staff will relocate to a new area with 5 private counseling spaces, 7 offices and a group meeting room. The current office space (located in a house) will be re-purposed into a recovery home for families with children. The education center will also be relocated from its current location (at the office) and expanded to provide vocational support and skill building services.

Finally, additional parking will greatly reduce street parking in the neighborhood.

Revenue generated from the expanded catering business (commercial kitchen) and rental income from the new recovery home (current office space) will help sustain ARC operating expenses. Completion of construction is anticipated for Summer 2018.

Thank you to the many who’s donations made this possible!

McNeely House

In May of this year, Healing House grieved the loss of a very dear friend of the ministry, Greg McNeely. For the past several years, Greg was very devoted to our community and encouraged many on their recovery and faith journey. Healing House residents would look forward to seeing him at weekly meetings, Bible studies and events. Through his battle with cancer, it seemed Greg always had a smile on his face and a hug to offer.

Greg’s legacy will live on at Healing House through the McNeely Home. Our men’s home, located on the intersection of Cypress and Independence, will be dedicated in memory of our dear friend and supporter.

The Resurrection Thursday Housing and Construction Crew has been hard at work renovating the McNeely Home. Since 2011, this crew has consistently donated their Thursday’s to working on various construction and renovation projects at Healing House.

The Thursday Crew consists mainly of retired Black and Veatch engineers including: James Patton, Alan South, Rod Bosma, John Briggs, Ed Schulteis, Tom Mendall, Jay Burrell, Fred Randazzo, Robert Scearce, Bob Turrel, Steve Rohleder, Jim Kotas, Leroy Kashka, Mike Schnieders, Bill Ernst, John Potter and Dave Crabtree. In addition to their time serving Healing House, they also volunteer their services to the Hope Center, Hope House, and several inner city schools. One of the reasons they enjoy serving at Healing House is because they get to see the impact of the work that they do.

Thank you to our Thursday Crew for giving of your time and skills – we appreciate you!

Madeline’s Swaddle House Now Open

We welcomed our first mother into Madeline’s Swaddle House on February 20th. Madeline’s Swaddle House, located a half block east of the meeting hall, was named in honor and recognition of a couple whose financial generosity was extremely instrumental in making this housing project possible. Madeline’s House will provide safe, supporting housing for expecting mothers and women with infants.

Madeline's Swaddle House

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped renovate this once dilapidated house to make it a home for our expecting mothers and their children! On Saturday, January 21st, a group of more than 30 volunteers from the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (COR, downtown campus) spent several hours helping out. They cleaned up Madeline’s Swaddle House and cleared out the adjacent cottage which will be the new site for the Changing Station Daycare.
